So I've been recording vocals with a Shure KSM-32, which had been a little weirdly. . . flat. I knew they were going through preamps on a Mackie board [ostensibly "boutique" preamps, but board preamps], but other mics through those preamps had been lively and awesome.
I like flat as much as the next guy, but not when it seems lifeless.
So I started putting them through this thing:
which has worked out nicely.
It's undoubtedly a consumer-y, mid-level [lo-level?] preamp, but it's really quite versatile and yummy and I'm happy.
And I make shitty music, so it's important.
