Never Doubt The Power of a Catchy Name, No. 2

I was trolling through the schedule for D.C.'s Black Cat night club when I espied with my little eye a band named

Gringo Star.

This brought me unexpected pleasure.  I thought I might have to check these dudes out. . . .  Then it occurred to me that I didn't know if they were dudes, and I didn't know if they SuCk.

So I slipped over to their website [click their name above], tooled around, then and took a listen to them on Amazon.  I'm boycotting iTunes to get revenge against that hippie Steve Jobs.  Not that he'll know.

Um, I got distracted.  Anyway:

Damned if I didn't find some catchy songs.  Kinda power pop, without the emphasis on power.  Maybe quirky,, but I hesitate to use that word because it's beginning to connote "precious" or "shitty."  These, on the other hand, are damned fine, in my idiosyncratic opinion.

So I'll buy their shit, and I'll go see them play, and I'll feel old.

their new record
