Don Kirshner, RIP

Today, I invited DOn Kirshner to join me in eternity.

He agreed.

To any American aged 40 - 70 with even a passing interest in music, Don Kirshner should have been (and should be) immensely important.

Ever heard of Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Cynthia Weil, or Barry Mann? Kirshner published 'em.

Ever heard of the Monkees?

Kirshner created 'em.

Ever hear of

[every band you ever cared about if they performed from 1971-1981]?

Don Kirshner televised 'em.

Joe Walsh? Sure. Johnny Winter? Uh huh.
Oh, yeah; these guys:

and these guys:

I think these guys did okay after Don:

The New York Times offers this obituary.
