North Dallas Forty -

Dated not by hippie talk ("she wasn't turning on, preferring the Cutty
Sark")

but instead by the poverty and helplessness of the players

The players are now The Man.

With his boot on our necks . . . .

Book or movie?

I read the book many, many years ago. The DVD I have downstairs ...

The movie was actually pretty faithful except for the last scene of the novel which always felt a bit tacked on to me anyway ...

Gent's book.

I hate to sound bellotootish, but the football was so fake in the movie that I couldn't get past it. Although it *was* largely faithful.

Movie underplayed importance of new woman as an adult step out of the dehumanizing, yet juvenile, world o' football.

Yeah, I as wondering about the movie. Neither Mac Davis nor Nick Nolte look anything like football players.

Great book. Unfortunately when I moved to DC, I lost my copy of it. Is it still in print? I should look it up ...
