Thums Up for Crazy Heart and Fantastic Mr. Fox

If you like unmannered, realistic, engaging acting, race [don't walk, don't even run] to a theater to see Crazy Heart.

I cowered inside my shirt for most of the movie, in mortal pain because the filmmakers GET IT. They get how hard life can be for some people, who make it that hard.

You've probably already read about Jeff Bridges's performance, and the words of praise aren't hyperbolic -- it's amazing. It's also small and real.

The movie was like a documentary to me -- even the few far-fetched things are grounded in reality, and the filmmakers rarely resorted to shorthand to establish why the characters do what they do.

I dug it.

You should also race to your theater to catch Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson's latest.

I like mister anderson more in theory than in practice, but I think this is a great movie. All of the voice performances are wonderful, and Kylie [Kiley to me] is a friend for the ages.

I suspect a double feature of Crazy Heart and Synecdoche New York would be hazardous to your health.

I don't trumpet my ignorance, but I acknowledge it -- and C. Kaufman does not make movies that work for me.
