Mister Parker, being a certified genius, no doubt knew who Aleta Freel was, but I admit, I had to look her up. Broadway actress in the 1930s, blew her brains out with a rifle at the age of 28, at least officially -- there was doubt at the time about her husband's claim it was suicide. ibdb.com (the Internet Broadway Database) lists her as having been in four plays between August 1931 and January 1934 -- Three Times The Hour, Louder Please, Both Your Houses and Double Door. Both Your Houses won playwright Maxwell Anderson the Pulitzer Prize.According to the utterly reliable Wikipedia, Freel was in Hollywood when she killed herself -- apparently she was distraught about blowing a screen test.Fascinating stuff.
