I've seen The Reader, Revolutionary Road, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Wrestler, and Wild Child. I enjoyed all of them -- with the exceptions of Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road, I enjoyed them a lot.
But I think I found Gran Torino the best o' the bunch.
The trailer does it multiple injustices.
I found the harsh, grizzled character drawn by Eastwood to largely be: real. I found his exchanges with friends [of a similar generation] to seem over the top, but to be real. I found his relationship with his neighbours real. I found their fresh-faced friendship, or respectful acknowledgement, or angry tobacco-spitting and rejection, real. I enjoyed a movie about friendship and love and reflection and reliance and self-reliance.
