I'm constantly amazed to remember performing certain cover songs with Broken Promise -- sometimes performing them for years -- and going to look at the lyrics, only to confirm that I never once even tried to learn the lyrics. I just sang the first line, sang whatever doggerel over the chords that I wanted, then yelled out the hook line in the chorus.

And all this before I started drinking.

Problem Child by, I think, AC/DC
Problems by the Sex Pistols
Sick as a Dog by Aerosmith
My Fist, Your Face by Aerosmith
Love Lies Bleeding by Elton John
Dr. Love by Kiss

I sense a thread in those songs, but Jesus, I must have performed Problems at fifteen gigs, and surely did the Aerosmith songs more than that.

Yes, even a pickup band could play twenty times year back then . . . .

Yeah, don't forget your rendition of "Jet" where you repeated the opening verse over and over again for about five minutes.

I mean that as compliment, by the way ...

There's more than one verse to Jet . . . ?

Hmmmm; that same show featured Divine Intervention and a rousing version of All I Wanna Do by Sheryl Crow. The lyrics that night were about a friend of ours having a fight with his girlfriend in the parking lot, and how he wanted to "see Penny dead."

I have it on tape.

btw, I fucked up the lyrics to Jet -- even the ones I tried to sing.

That was a fun show for those of us who managed to slog through an accident on the Beltway to get there.

Ah, the days of my youth ...

Your attendance will never be forgotten, nor go unappreciated.

Good times were had.

I had to persuade one new girlfriend not to attend, because one old girlfriend was attending. The wife was, of course, not invited.

Ah, the days of my youth ...

thank Gahd they're over.
