I'm still stuck where I've always been -- I can vow that I'll "pay attention" to lyrics, and sometimes when I concentrate I can hear them.

But as I sit here enjoying the continuing vitality of Pandora [thanks to the world for deferring the internet royalty debates, to be discussed here soon], I notice that I respond entirely to, and by, how songs sound.

Having selected a "station" based on a cover of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," I was pleasantly surprised when "I Can't Take It" by Cheap Trick came on.

I've loved the song for twenty years.

The sound of it gets me.

I realized I'd never once heard the lyrics. . .
